Summer Camp Ardèche, France

5th July 2016

Day 2 - Early rain, flag planting, and suprise ropes course!

...pitterpatterpitterpatterpitterpatter... rain! ...and so, many Village Campers awoke thismorning at about 5 AM to the sound of rain on the top of our canvas tents! After such a sunny day yesterday it was quite a surprise. For some, it was comforting and sent us right back to sleep - while for others it was an unwelcome alarm clock!

Luckily the rain cleared early and allowed for a full day of activities. In the morning after breakfast, River groups 1, 2, and 3 went to caving, canoeing, and hiking respectively. I went with the hiking team, and before heading off, we decided to plant a flag at the top! After a quick look-around, we chanced upon the perfect find - a large Lebanese flag! At camp this year we have about eight gorgeous Lebanese kids, and on of them, John, was on the hike and could represent his country proudly by planting the flag at the top of the cliff. Well done little dude!

Because of the rain earlier, Moose took a chance to re-schedule an afternoon activity that the French Language kids were going to miss out on - the ropes course at Indy Parc. Luckily there was space free, and we confirmed for the afternoon. The campers were very excited, and after lunch all of the French students piled into the van and headed out for a whole afternoon of fun and action swinging on ropes, logs, planks, ladders, and ziplines!

In the afternoon everyone returned for a swim or to play on the field before heading in to dinner. Now they are out on the field competing in an egg-break challenge - a catapult firing eggs wrapped in protective cases that the kids have made, and one counsellor with a baseball bat trying to smash them! If any eggs survive, that team wins!!!
