Summer Camp Ardèche, France
Monday at Ardeche - Choice, choice, and choice!
Another *choice* day here at the Ardeche, with the sun (mainly) shining, breezes blowing, and campers all around the place having fun!
We began the day as usual, with breakfast at 8.00., before heading out to respective choices. There was a new menu today - climbing at a different crag, or Arts and Crafts with Pebble, Snow and Wildling, or an all-new activity: stand up paddle boarding! The climbers headed off to a local spot in Salavas called Fontgarnide and had an awesome time - campers who had previously taken a shine to climbing had a chance to hone their skills on some new routes. The paddleboarding was a smashing success, with time for games, floating, jumping, and splashing! The Arts and Crafts team began a new project for the summer - the Totem Pole Mosaic - which we hope to complete before the end of the season. French Fun had classes as usual.
Everyone returned back for a cooked lunch of pasta and meatballs, before heading out for another choice in the afternoon (same activities as the morning). The Arts and Crafts team even had a poetry session, looking at limericks, and cranking out some killer verses. The whole camp reconvened for Apres, which today involved a lot of spontaneous singing and dancing.
It's after dinner now, and the camp is preparing for one of the main events of the summer - the Grand Descent! Leaving tomorrow morning, we are doing a two-day descent down the stunning Ardeche Gorge, sleeping out at a bivouac site halfway down. We will be in a national park, and will pass an incredible array of scenery, wildlife, and even ancient Knights Templar ruins! We will return on Wednesday evening, no doubt very tiredly, so you won't be hearing from me until Thursday morning. The weather looks good and the campers are in fine paddling form, so everything looks lined up to be an AWESOME time.
