Summer Camp LTC, Leysin

23rd July 2016

Olympic Museum, Shops, and Self-Defense

Today, the campers went on an excursion to Lausanne by bus, to visit the Olympic Museum and had the opportunity to go shopping along the trendiest streets. The stairs leading up to the museum had engraved on them every city that the Olympic games have been held in since 1896. At the top of the climb, there was a beautiful view of Lac Leman to enjoy. Inside the museum, the campers walked through three floors of impressive and interactive exhibitions. They learned about the origins of the Olympics, how they came back to modern times, and the incredible details and uniqueness of all the Olympic games. The museum held some of the most historic sports objects in the world, such as a basketball signed by the United States Dream Team. On the final floor, there were many games to test their agility, reaction time, and accuracy.
After the museum, the kids gathered around the waterfront, and ate their packed lunches. Once they finished, everyone boarded the bus and set off for the city centre. The kids were given three hours to shop, eat, and explore the beauties of Lausanne. Once everyone returned, we set back off to the hotel. The evening activity was an enjoyable self-defense class, taught by David Allen. The campers enjoyed trying out these new moves on each other, and had lots of laughs while practicing.
