Summer Camp Ardèche, France

4th July 2011

Monday #1 / 4th of July

We woke up this morning to Brian's alluring every-10-minute wake-up calls. By 9am we were full of cereal & fruit and all packed for our morning activities of either Francais, caving or rock climbing.

Megan, Jennie & Willy took some of us caving... we identified different kinds of cave formations, waded through a waste high pool of water and got covered in mud.

In the afternoon, the French group were introduced to the river and the basics of canoeing with Megan, Lawrence and Melinda. For safety, life vests, helmets and river shoes are mandatory when going anywhere near or in the river. Canoes are way heavier than we thought!

After dinner we played Sticks with our counsellors, a version of Capture the Flag, but soccer-field-sized. We also discussed the does/don'ts of not having toilette facilities when we go on our overnight canoe trip next week.
