Summer Camp LTC, Leysin
Presentations, relaxation and planning
The day started with a presentation by a motivational speaker from Leeds, England, Lee Jackson. He got all of the campers to line up, present themselves, and then take a pause at the front of the room, instead of walking out of the spotlight, as to avoid the fears associated with public speaking. He informed the campers that they must hold their ground at the front of the room, and face their fears of public speaking. This exercise helped to increase their confidence, by experiencing the adrenaline rush of presenting themselves to a room, and making eye contact with the audience. After this, the kids were asked to pick a card from a deck of Trump Cards, and explain why they chose it. This helped them practice selling their opinions and expressing their interests. The presentation continued with more interactive activities. The kids were separated into counsellor groups, and were asked to talk about their passion to the group. We all learned a lot from each other, and realized how multi-dimensional we all are as people.
In the afternoon, the kids who did lazer tag last week in Villeneuve, were taken to the outdoor pool in Aigle, and the ones who went to the pool last week got to play lazer tag, today. The weather was mild and partly cloudy, so it was a great day for swimming, sun bathing, and speeding down the waterslide. After these activities, the kids had 2 hours of free time to relax, roam the village, and play games together.
After dinner, everyone gathered in the meeting room to present their suggestion for the day they were allowed to plan. After several enjoyable presentations, some very well planned ideas, with imagination and appetite, the majority of the campers voted to go for Paddle boarding in Lake Leman and then to Cailler chocolate museum. Mr Lee gave his feedback complimenting everyone for the very imaginative and persuasive presentations as well as structured ideas.
