Summer Camp VDC Geneva

1st August 2012

Happy Swiss Day!!

Hey campers and parents! Today is August 1st and that means it is Swiss National Day!! Village Camps celebrated this occasion with a fantastic range of activities! We had a massive Swiss flag to represent the country we live in and red and white bracelets were the prizes to win today! Some groups were preparing for special day, practicing their secret song and dance (which we guarantee will be musical!). Others had fun on Luna field, doing Olympic style events such as long jump, high jump, hurdles and of course, the javelin throw!

In arts and crafts today, the campers made some banners showing off Switzerland. They were all amazingly creative, incorporating glitter, glue and curly straws for decoration. By the end of arts and crafts everyone had at least one Swiss flag painted on to them, and some people even had 4!!! The seniors tried their hands at tie dying their Village Camp shirts and the results were astounding.

We went around and asked some of the campers what they thought Swiss National day was really about. One camper said, "It is a party because of a revolution", while another said, "Finishing school!" and, "The day they decided to be friends." Finally, a camper said, "A party, because Village Camps is here!" Today was a really special day for us here at camp and we hope it's a special day for you too!!!!
