Summer Camp Zell am See, Austria
Beginning of the Second Week!
The start of the second week came after the long weekend where the campers went on a long hike and then had a very fun but lazy day on Sunday. Getting up to be as active as they were last week was not as easy for some campers as it was for others.
The day got off to a great start with the Blue adventure groups heading off to do a high ropes course off camp and the red adventure group went sailing on the lake in Zell am See. The yellows spent the morning playing sports such as badminton and indoor hockey with the counselors on site with counselors, Paz, Paige and Ben.
The film camp is getting closer and closer to finishing their movies. We have seen them working hard in different places all over camp shooting and then editing scenes. We are all waiting anxiously to see the final films in a few days.
The language camps began the day with more grammar, but excursions off camp to practice their skills are planned for today and Thursday so that the campers can practice the skills that they have learned. The beginning English class had a thrill today. They were learning shapes, so they went on a short excursion to the local super market where they had to hunt down three different examples of shapes such as squares, arches and triangles.
For lunch we had pasta and chicken. All of the campers were huge fans of the pasta which disappeared very quickly from the bowls.
After lunch all sorts of fun activities were offered. Today the campers got to try out Zumba, circus skills, floor hockey, tie-dying, badminton, kickball and archery. The reds who took part in floor hockey were on fire, especially Gabriella Bunzol who scored almost all of the points scored during the hour long session.
Dinner was a special thick hearty soup, which was nice, especially when it began to rain in the evening. We had been expecting a storm all day and it finally broke. The rain unfortunately made it impossible for the blue group to go go-carting, so they stayed in and watched a movie instead.
The action was where the yellows and red groups were. They had the Egg drop event that had the theme of: Back to the Future. Counselors Ian and Laura dressed up liked humans from 2085 who had crashed in the alps. The egg drop machines were needed to help them get back to their own time.
The campers were divided up into groups. Then before the construction began the groups had some challenges to try and earn more materials. The first was when one member of the team was given a cookie. It was placed on their foreheads and without using their heads they had to eat the entire cookie.
The second task had another group member trying to get a bouncing ping pong ball to stick to a piece of toast with jam on top, a few campers actually did it.
The next task was where the groups lined up and had to pass a tennis ball from neck to neck without hands, that was pretty hilarious, especially when the counselor group was the last one to finish, the beards of the boys in the group kept tickleing the girl counselors.
The final challenge was to unfreeze a frozen shirt and be the first team to put it on. This was a contest to try and see who could be the warmest group. All of the teams got pretty creative when they were trying to unfreeze the shirts, some used their bodies, others used the lights. In the end all the teams thawed out the shirts enough to put them on.
Then the campers were given twenty minutes to construct their egg drop contraptions before they were collected by the beings from the future and thrown off the roof to see if their ship would protect an egg inside it. Many of the campers contraptions worked, but the counselors egg smashed on impact.
After all of the contraptions had been thrown off the campers got a great thrill when the two directors, Catie and Stu, plus the counselor BJ, had eggs smashed on their heads.
The night was a huge success, even the rain could not dampen the mood of the campers!
