Summer Camp Zell am See, Austria
Sunshine Brings More Fun!
The day is off to a great start. The girls were woken up with Johnny Be Good by Chuck Berry blaring over the speakers of counselor Katie's computer. The girls were all up and ready to go and did a good job making it to their early morning meetings.
After a yummy breakfast the campers went to their activities. The blues went to sail on the lake in Zell am See. The reds and yellows were supposed to trade places on the rock wall and in the gym. However, a mountain storm made it to dangerous for the reds to climb, so they were kept inside at camp. The counselors quickly conferred with each other and the reds spent a little bit of time playing the game Mafia, where they can sit still indoors. The game had four different players, citizens, mafia, doctors, and detectives. The mafia wanted to win by getting rid of the others. The doctor could save people and the detective had to try and guess who the mafia members were before they were gotten rid of. The boys had played this during their mountain excursion, everyone was really into the game and had a lot of fun. When the rain stopped the reds got to go finish their time period outside and in the gym.
The language and film continued to work on their activities. All three groups are doing fantastic in their programs. Progress is obvious to everyone in all three of the programs. The German classes played bingo games where they worked on verbs and adjectives to improve the vocabulary of the students while the English classes practiced writing postcards in English.
A delicious lunch of a thick savory goulash kept the campers warm as the rain began to pour down once again. This caused the afternoon meeting to be held inside instead of on the tennis court.
After the meeting the campers split into groups to work on their international night performance. On Thursday the campers will present different countries. Most of the campers chose the country they were from, but others went for other countries that they liked, Russia, Ital and Spain were the biggest groups. They all worked really hard all afternoon and by the looks of the preparations the shows presentations are all going to be fantastic!
After a yummy pasta dinner there were several events going on. The yellows went to take part in VC King and Queen, where they all had a chance to compete before a boy and girl were crowned king and queen of camp. Singing, dancing, skits, sports and card tricks were performed for the talents. The winners were Vladimir and Ludovica! Vladimir performed soccer tricks and Ludovica sang a song in Italian. Everyone was fabulous!
The red boys went off to do boy stuff on the tennis court and in the gym when the rain started again.
The big event was where the blues and red girls were. The red girls had been recruited because there were only two blue girls, which made the idea of Date Night a little disproportionate. They got to do all sorts of funny activities that were designed for the boys and girls to get to know each other. First they half of a famous couple stuck to their foreheads so that they did not know who it was. They had to guess and then find their partner. After that they were asked questions about what they would like from a relationship and they voted on the answers. Then the speed dating round came up and they got to mingle with each other. Many of the people looked as if they were having a great time in their conversations. The final event during Date Night, was when a boy and girl were given a situation that may come up in a relation ship and they had to act out the situations. The situations included, proposals, meeting the parents, date, eating out and running into your ex. The campers all laughed their way through the entire night!
After all of the events the campers were sent to bed to get a good nights sleep before our all day excursion to Salzburg tomorrow!
